Saver's Delight Thrifting

where amazing thrift finds are found

My find of the month Nichols and stone 1930s black Windsor chair

I was walking around the sheriff’s ranch thrift store when I spotted this amazing chair. It called me to it with its amazing simplicity in style and it’s antique vibe. I loved it right away, I knew it was a Windsor chair and I knew it was old by its stencil. So I bought it for 10 dollars. After, I dusted the chair , I did some research and found out that Nichols and stone chairs were collectible and sought after for their quality workmanship. I found out that this company was started in 1792 in Gardner, Massachusetts. For generations, quality Windsor chairs were made along with many other different furniture pieces such as dining sets. The company was bought out by the Stickley company in 2008. A Nichols and Stone chair at minimum is at valued at 300.00. Depends on the style of chair and it’s age. I discovered my chair dates from 1930s and on because on the bottom of chair the company crest and logo is hand carved on bottom. The N of Nichols is on top of the S of Stone which dates it to 1930s and on, because later the logo was changed to the N and S being side by side on their logo around the 1950s.

I was so excited to find out this information about the chair. I am taking it to Ocala auction this week to get it authenticated. I plan to keep chair along with my vintage dining set. That’s another blog post in the making. I just love my chair. Here is a photo of the chair.
